The
Neighborhood Christian Center is excited that it had the great
opportunity to reach up to over
157 children through our
annual Summer Camp known as “Summer Super Stars for Christ.”
Summer Super Stars started June 12th
at First Presbyterian Church and ran for five weeks through July
13th.
Every year Christian certified public school teachers, college
students, and volunteers come together to provide Bible study,
academic enrichment, arts and athletics to inner city children
of ages. Our
objective is to effectively share the gospel through building
relationships with these children, seven hours a day, five days
a week for five weeks.
Because of your support,
we were able to once again enhance scholastic skills and share
the life changing good news of salvation through Jesus Christ.
This year we are also celebrating 25 professions of faith made
from students in the program!
Hearts for Arts, our two week
performing arts collaboration with the Belhaven Theatre Academy,
the Junior League of Jackson and Belhaven College also
celebrated great success with a total of 50 students!
Every
year, NCC students participate in acting, dance, music and stage
production classes as a part of a two week intensive training
class in the performing arts. Each year, NCC children are given
a chance to showcase their gifts and talents through a
performance at the end of the two week camp. The Junior League
women provide financial support and volunteers who serve as
counselors and mentors for these children every day. It is
amazing to watch these children transform over these two weeks
into thespians, dancers, designers and musicians as they are
given the opportunity to learn to embrace their God given gifts
and talents. We would like to thank the Jr. League, Belhaven
College, the Jackson Sheriff’s department for providing
transportation and the Belhaven Theatre Academy for another
great year.
It has been
a busy summer! Groups from all over the South East have
also collaborated with the Neighborhood Christian Center to
enhance the Georgetown community as well as other neighbors in
need. These trips allow students cross cultural opportunities
to partner with individuals and families in local urban
communities. Groups from multiple denominations have
participated in working with NCC to meet the needs in Jackson’s
inner city. Mission Fest, sponsored by Galloway United
Methodist Church brought teenagers from all over the state of
Mississippi to serve with different organizations in the Jackson
Metro. Every year, NCC welcomes the youth group of Christ
Presbyterian Church in Nashville, Tennessee. This year, they
worked to renovate, paint and add on to the Mt. Zion Church of
Christ Holiness’ youth house as well as painting, replacing
shutters and putting new doors on a house across the street from
our Ash Street Center. The Disciples of Christ from Arkansas,
Louisiana & Mississippi also joined NCC’s efforts to help us
prepare the center for the fall tutoring program. NCC
welcomes all denominations to join in our efforts to continue,
“utilizing the body of Christ to do the work of Christ in the
city.” Please feel free to contact NCC if you or your
organization would like to get more involved with our efforts.
Take a look at our
Summer Newsletter to learn more about how you can get
involved!
Join us as our
After School Tutoring for the 2006/2007 school year is in full swing. As we step out in faith, we are trusting God to
provide the active involvement of His Holy Spirit to provide resources,
excellent instruction, and spiritual transformation in the lives of each NCC
participant.
God has
provided these opportunities to serve our Lord and Savior
through NCC as a direct result of the prayers, financial support
and hours of time invested by believers all over the Metro
Jackson area and beyond. Please continue to pray for us as we
strive through our partnership with you to transform the inner
city of Jackson through the life-changing message of the
Gospel. You can visit
