The Georgetown/Mid-City community that surrounds the Neighborhood Christian Center is located in the west central quadrant of Jackson, Mississippi in close proximity to downtown. It is bordered by: Woodrow Wilson to the North, Fortification Street to the South, Mill Street/Railroad tracks to the east and Town Creek tributary on the west.
The Georgetown/Mid-city community is made up of: 96.3% Black/African-American and the typical income level falls between the ranges of: $15,000-$23,000 per year.
Over the past 40 years, the Georgetown neighborhood has struggled both economically and socially as its reputation has changed from a historically prominent neighborhood known for its education and opportunities to a neighborhood that is often known for its crime, drug use and poverty. We believe that Georgetown, just like any other neighborhood deserves the right to a peaceful environment. Children shouldn’t be afraid to walk down their own streets, community members shouldn’t have to live in fear of someone using violence against them or breaking into their homes. We believe in coming alongside our community to give the residents of Georgetown the opportunities to restore and take pride in their neighborhood. Because of our belief in the redemptive power of Jesus Christ, we can have hope as we work with the people of Georgetown to reclaim their own community.
